Private Equity Firm Investindustrial Prepares $3 Billion Bid for Treehouse Foods
Shares of Treehouse Foods (THS) surged 17% following reports that private equity firm Investindustrial is assembling a $3 billion buyout offer. The private-label snack manufacturer, with a current market cap of $963 million, saw its stock volatility spike as markets digested the potential acquisition.
Credit intelligence firm Octus revealed the proposed deal, which WOULD value Treehouse at an enterprise value roughly matching its $2.6 billion debt-inclusive valuation. Activist investor Jana Partners—a shareholder since 2021—has historically pushed for a sale, though its involvement in this development remains unclear.
The packaged food sector continues attracting private equity interest due to stable demand and recession-resistant product lines. Treehouse exemplifies this appeal, trading at multiples that make it a compelling Leveraged buyout target despite lacking formal confirmation from either party.
